Near the observation tower in South Kingstown is a rock that is at the heart of a tragic love story. In 1765 Hannah Robinson, the lovely young daughter of a prominent local citizen, fell in love with her French tutor. Hannah's father disapproved of the courtship, and the couple was forced to meet secretly, often at a large rock more than a mile from her house. They eventually eloped, resulting in Hannah's disinheritance. Her new husband soon deserted her, and Hannah, in declining health, was brought home to die, for the last time passing the rock where she and her beloved had met in happier times. Learn More...
